When you have diabetes it is important to take good care of your feet, especially if you have damage to the nerves in your feet (diabetic neuropathy) and have decreased feeling in your feet.
Tips for taking care of your feet
- Wear comfortable, good fitting shoes to protect your feet! Often if you have health insurance they will help pay for diabetic shoes, so call them to see if they cover diabetic shoes!
2. Inspect your feet every night before you go to bed. Look for any sores or cuts on your feet!
If you have trouble being able to see all of your foot…don’t laugh, not all of us are as flexible as we used to be!! Run your hands over your feet and feel for any sores or cuts. You can also have a family member help you inspect your feet!
3. Lastly, make sure your healthcare provider does a diabetic foot exam on you once a year!
So right foot, left foot, take care of your diabetic foot!
